GFX Rules 2019

Rules for Drivers

  1. You crashed - that's your fault, not the marshal's. Stay Calm.
  2. No abusive language towards marshals or other drivers will be tolerated. No yelling and especially NO PROFANITY at any time.
  3. If you cause a wreck, you must wait for the other car(s) to be marshaled and placed ahead of you before you may continue.
  4. When Qualifying: If you are being lapped by faster traffic, allow them to pass. You don't need to pull off the track or stop - just leave a little room and talk on the driver's stand. For example, you might say, "Go inside on the next corner" and just leave enough room for the driver lapping you to do so. Once you have been lapped, DO NOT 'race' the leaders, run your own race.
  5. When Racing: You are fully entitled to make your car as wide as possible to prevent the other driver getting past. However, do not swerve to knock the other car off the track as they get past. It is bad driving and will cost you time. The best way not to be overtaken is to stick to the racing line. If the other car tries to cut in even tighter then you may try to stop the other car from overtaking (but don't push it off the track). If the other car gets the nose of their car ahead of yours then they have the place and you should give way. The other driver will do everything they reasonably can to stop you from overtaking and it is your responsibility to make sure that you pass cleanly without contact with the other car. The best way of doing this is to stay close behind the other car (but not too close that you touch). The other driver will start to focus on your car and will be more likely to make a mistake and allow you to get past. Wait for a suitable passing opportunity such as running wide on the exit of a corner or being delayed by a car being lapped. If no such opportunities arise then you will need to come up with other tactics such as finding out places on the track where you are quicker than they are and perhaps trying alternative racing lines so that you can approach the corner quicker than they can. However, do not use this to barge your way past. If you make contact with the other car so that they crash or slow down, then you have passed the car unfairly so you should wait and let the other driver retake the place. Remember - it is your responsibility to overtake other cars without hitting them. Even if this means staying behind them for a few corners.
  6. No corner cutting or "short-cutting" the track. If this happens, allow yourself to be marshaled and/or wait for the race director to tell you to continue your race. You should not gain position by cutting the track by purpose or accident.
  7. If your car breaks, take a step back and remain on the driver's stand, do not disrupt the other drivers or block their site lines. Your race is over :-(
  8. To begin each main race, the race director will ask each racer to take a step back. Each racer, in order of qualifiying, will get to step forward and pick their driver stand spot.
  9. NO REVERSE - EVER!
  10. Have FUN! This is a toy car race, not the Formula One World Championships!

Rules for Marshals

  1. Once your race is finished - GO MARSHAL!
  2. If you are running back to back races, it is YOUR responsibility to find another driver to marshal on your behalf. The Race Director may assign a driver or disqualify a volunteer if they see fit (for example, no kids marshal the 1/8 class).
  3. Marshal how you would like to be marshaled - quickly and safely.
  4. NEVER flip or throw cars, don't pick them up by the wing, simply turn them over and point them in the right direction.
  5. DO NOT marshal a car if its wheels are still rotating/spinning.
  6. Watch your corner, not the race.
  7. In a pile up, the first car to crash is the first to be marshaled!
  8. Marshals DO NOT FIX cars. Simply take it off the track and place it in your corner. DO NOT run it back to the driver or to the pits.
  9. No eating, drinking or smoking while marshaling.

Rules for Everyone

  1. If you see something can be done or needs help - help out! Don't wait to be asked :-)
  2. At the end of the day, pack up your stuff and clean up your area.
  3. Thank the crew and your RC friends for a great race day.
  4. No smoking in the pits.
  5. Tell everyone how much fun you had.
